Jazz Festival
acrylic, colored pencil and graphite on canvas
36 x 48
2015

Another painting started by scribbling, this time with water-soluble graphite crayons, Jazz Festival was painted with squeegees, kitchen spatulas, and painting knives. Patterns were made by scraping back into the paint with combs, rubber tipped painting tools, and ice scrapers. Artist quality colored pencils were used to bring out some of the marks, and there is the faintest hint of spray paint stenciling with a string placemat and a piece of loosely-woven fabric. What fun!
